Progress Report: Wait for it....

...wait for it--
Not many words needed in this series. I do know I could not get enough of these. So cute, so silent, until Mama and Papa came back. There were four baby swallows in the nest of mud and feathers!! The photos were taken on America's Memorial Day weekend. Bud and I went back 6 days later and you wouldn't believe how big they had become! I took pictures of our return visit also. Will share them to show you the difference at another time. This has been an incredible visual for me. One I won't soon forget! If you recall, I posted about the parents building their nests at the same location just a few weeks ago....the post is here.

  3. These are amazing! And I can't say enough about them! When their mouths are shut, they take up almost their whole body, they are ALL mouth!! And then the feeding, you got it ALL! they give their mom a good target, don't they? WELL DONE!!

  4. So nice to get them at two different stages of settlement on those pristine roof beams. I'm sure your latest visit will document their tremendous growth rate.

  19. We have a similar Swallow here in Australia that nests in garages, etc and I used to hope and pray every summer as a kid that one would nest on our house - and they often did! So these photos bring back many happy memories, thank you for sharing them :)

  24. Great photos! Funny how they're silent as church mouses. Until Mom shows up with food. Then it's mouths wide open, to be fed. :-)

  25. I love those little faces over the edge of the nest.

  26. Awesome photos!! Those are some hungry mouths. And such doting parents. So lovely to see this.

I can't believe Texas fines you for doing "playback" on your phone. There must not be any restrictions here because our bird instructor (who teaches at LSU) was doing it, though she did say to play the bird songs sparingly.

  27. Anni, thank you for the WSJ link...although I couldn't read the entire article, it led me to search other opinions on playback. There certainly are many cons to playback that I hadn't thought of before, and I thank you for educating me. Have a great day.

  30. These are wonderful! We had cliff swallows every year that wanted to build on our back patio here in South Texas. We let them a couple of years, because I love to watch the babies, but they are SO messy!!! This brought back fond memories, thank you :)
