Another gray rainy day several days ago, but we took our time out for walking Hans Suter Reserve anyway. The first bird we spotted was all hunkered down on the leeward side of the one feeder canal before the open bay and before we got to the observation platform...
Snowy Egret
...then, the open water. The shoreline was teeming with mostly pintail ducks and redheads. A few plovers, plenty of sea gulls, black skimmers, two terns that I could see through the binoculars, brown pelicans, a couple of white pelicans in the water, bathing while a good two dozen or more on one of the small islands further out. Great Blue Herons are always present. I sighted through the lens an American Wigeon, tho throughout our short stay in the blustery, chilly winds, the lighting wasn't all that good for photography. Still, I took some photos to record some we saw...

All of a sudden in the calm of the stormy day, the wind subsided a bit before it picked up again. In the silence, off to my right, a ruckus broke out. As my attention darted toward the noises, a great blue heron was chasing after an egret. Aha!! The egret had something the heron wanted!!
