It's March! Time for the swallows to return & nest!!

BARN SWALLOW
Habitat map: Swallow
In our Pecan Tree while I was out doing yard work!! Both male and female were frequenting with return trips ...and I watched now and then between getting the fern winter kill pulled out.
On Mustang Island in the fishing village of Port Aransas, I came upon an uncommon bird seen in this area of Texas! I was elated! I watched and snapped photos of it for as long as I could before it disappeared altogether in the ground cover!! And it's a "newly" sighted bird for me.

Great shots Anni! So glad you had a new sighting. Thanks for hosting :)
ReplyDeleteIt is hard for me to tell the difference between the different thrashers and thrushes! Oh and then there are the Warblers! But you KNOW when you see something you've not seen before and it is very exciting! Enjoy your week my friend.
ReplyDeleteHello Anni,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Sage Thrasher, it is a great new bird sighting. Love the Sapsucker images. The Barn Swallows are sweet and the Cattle Egret is a beauty! Great series of photos! Thanks for hosting. Have a great day and a happy weekend.
Congratulations on your Sage Thrasher. It is always exciting to see a new species, and Sage Thrasher is not an easy bird. Thanks also for a fine series of pictures here.
ReplyDeleteSuch joy we get when we see something unfamiliar. Great sightings especially the new one!
ReplyDeleteI have seen Thrashers before, they are very secretive and not often seen. But I think this Sage Thrasher is a different kind. We had an enormous old Maple tree in the center of our front yard. Part of the reason we bought this house was the tree. Then a Yellow Bellied sapsucker found it. Every day I watched him make hundreds of rows of holes in it, suck out the sap, and poop it out. The tree got so sick we had to have it cut down, and I blame him!!
ReplyDeleteLove the cattle egret and the barn swallow with an open mouth!
ReplyDeleteAlways good to see a bird for the first time Anni. I hope you have a great week ahead
ReplyDeleteMy favorite today is the cattle egret, love that hair do.. ha ha. the moorhen is pretty as is her perch
ReplyDeleteHello again,:=) It is so exciting to see a new species of bird.I thought it was a Thrush, until I saw the name Thrasher. Well done in getting so many captures of this attractive bird. Its enjoyable to see birds that I never see here in Portugal. Lovely images of them all.:=)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about your new bird Anni. I'm pleased that you identified it for me as a Sage Thrasher.I imagine that they are pretty scarce? I'm hoping to see a Swallow very soon - just the earlier Sand Martin noted so far this spring. Enjoy your birding week ahead and thanks for the link today.

Spring clean-up seems to be more exciting and fun this year for all of us, Anni!! Seeing that Thrush for the first time must have been a thrill for you!! Heck, I jumped out of my chair this morning when the fat robins were filling their bellies with earthworms brought to the surface by the heavy rains!...jp
ReplyDeleteLove that Sage Thrasher...
ReplyDeleteWonderful series of birds, some of which I so rarely get to see if at all. Thanks Anni and enjoy the rest of your week :)
