§ Drive By "Shooting"...

Would you believe the week after all the living room work was done, the weather got "pissy"!?!! My luck, I guess. We've had nasty cold temps for South Texas, dark gloomy sky, rains, frost, high winds, even the birds are huddled and hidden for the most part. A few days back, areas of Houston were hit by 140MPH winds and a  damaging tornado!! Our son is okay...but heavy rains came with it, and flooded streets. Maybe the coming week, the weather will improve. I hope so. Its no fun driving and taking photos from the car window!!

§ Leonabelle Birding Center....

Bud and I stopped at Leonabelle Turnbull's Birding Center before heading out to lunch. We have taken note of all the other areas we stop to photograph birds, that most places lack in few migrant birds.  Nothing typical lately.  Dunno know what's up with that. Here are some birds we saw on the lake...

§ This Week...

Not much happening here in the Coastal Bend. Birding has nearly come to a stand-still. The only thing I accomplished this week worthy of saying something got done was to register for the annual 5K heart walk in October...pledging money for heart research. Other than that, my birding consisted of 'drive by shooting' from the car as I drove around town...

§ In the Recent Archives...

I think I've got all the indoor decorating done this week! I will start the next week by stocking up on groceries that are canned and can be frozen ahead of time. Then, cooking all the necessary sweets like cookies, popcorn balls, rice krispie treats, and have that done. I will plan on making two pies also, but that will be the day before Christmas. When my sister arrives, we have in the works decorating a gingerbread house. Neither of us has ever done it. And knowing my sister, she will make it fun. I just may sit back with my phone's camera and keep a log of her goings-on with the frosting and what not. She wears it well. LOL

Anyway, in between the decorating and such, Bud has been busy playing carpenter. With all of our flooding rains the last several years, the garage wooden frame has become full of 'wood-rot' so he got the lumber and all that's needed to do some repair work on it. I helped when I was called on. Otherwise, I stayed out of harm's way. He's known to be lethal with the hammer. LOL So, needless to say, no birding for me. [the city also began work on the island causeway bridge this past week, so there is expected delays on that roadway up until 2023! It'll be a hassle driving there birding. Of course, I won't let that deter me much, but I WILL not go as often as I'd like.] Either that, or drive clear to Portland, TX and then the round -a-bout way to Aransas Pass and Ingleside and use the ferry.  Long drive tho.  And on top of that...there is construction of the new Harbor Bridge in that area of town I try to avoid!  Damned if I do, damned if I don't is how I see it.

Moving forward, these photos I share this week are from the not too distant past:

§ Water Birds....

The following images were all taken in one area of the Coastal Bend. All waterfowl of course since the area is a lake...
We are beginning to have much more comfortable weather. Still a bit summer like, but less humid! I will start feeling up to getting outdoors more now. Yay. And it's beginning to feel like the migratory paths will be filled with those flying south for the winter and stopping off in our spot of the world. I hope to see some good ones...

§ Birds in Paradise Pond & More...

Weather-wise here in the Coastal Bend of Texas, it's been nearly perfect! Mild overnight temperatures, soothing high temperatures, and most enjoyable....LOW HUMIDITY!! In fact the morning I drove to the islands, when I was in the shade viewing birds on the pond, it was a bit chilly when the wind blew in. But, the sun was warming. A most beautiful week behind us with a promise of more to come! These photos below are all from the same area within a mile radius of each. The two [the grackle and the white morph heron] were seen at Paradise Pond. The rest were at Leonabelle Reserve [aka Port Aransas Wildlife].
