Altho taken about a month apart, I now have both sexes of this species to post on one blog entry. With this particular bird, the Green Kingfisher male is more colorful while the belted kingfisher: the female is more colorful. This has been amended, I at first had the female with the rusty belly band - it's the BELTED Kingfisher where the female has the rusty belly band. Sorry The post has been corrected.

I also attempted to get them both in flight. But, they move like the speed of sound!! Very challenging to keep them in the viewfinder...

Wonderful images of the Green Kingfisher! Nice turkey-- I think the best I can do is a Turkey Vulture. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteKingfishers fly like tiny jets! Great pictures! And so interesting that the female is more colorful! Totally opposite. I am thinking that the bit of red on her breast will not be visible when she is sitting on her nest.
ReplyDeleteyou made my day today. I just love Kingfishers and this couple is so beautiful. I know they can be hard to catch and your images are stunning. :) Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant pictures. If I could just click my fingers and go birding with you one day I just know that I would see some amazing things.

ReplyDeleteI am late linking in today- I went to lunch with friends and it stretched into a whole afternoon of fun at the library. Did you know that today is International Games Day at libraries everywhere?
Thanks for hosting this birding meme.

Wow! Great pictures but how did it happen that the female is more colorful? I thought the idea was she should be invisible on the nest.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful pair of Green Kingfishers, and well done for capturing them so brilliantly. I believe they are not only fast in flight, but quite shy.
ReplyDeleteHi Anni.
ReplyDeleteNow that Green Kingfisher is one I would really like to see. As one of your other friends commented, I too would expect the male to be brighter than the female as in many bird families. Guess they have to be different being Texan?
Enjoy the rets of your week. And thanks for allowing me to join in the pictures and comments this week.
