In the Recent Archives...

I think I've got all the indoor decorating done this week! I will start the next week by stocking up on groceries that are canned and can be frozen ahead of time. Then, cooking all the necessary sweets like cookies, popcorn balls, rice krispie treats, and have that done. I will plan on making two pies also, but that will be the day before Christmas. When my sister arrives, we have in the works decorating a gingerbread house. Neither of us has ever done it. And knowing my sister, she will make it fun. I just may sit back with my phone's camera and keep a log of her goings-on with the frosting and what not. She wears it well. LOL

Anyway, in between the decorating and such, Bud has been busy playing carpenter. With all of our flooding rains the last several years, the garage wooden frame has become full of 'wood-rot' so he got the lumber and all that's needed to do some repair work on it. I helped when I was called on. Otherwise, I stayed out of harm's way. He's known to be lethal with the hammer. LOL So, needless to say, no birding for me. [the city also began work on the island causeway bridge this past week, so there is expected delays on that roadway up until 2023! It'll be a hassle driving there birding. Of course, I won't let that deter me much, but I WILL not go as often as I'd like.] Either that, or drive clear to Portland, TX and then the round -a-bout way to Aransas Pass and Ingleside and use the ferry.  Long drive tho.  And on top of that...there is construction of the new Harbor Bridge in that area of town I try to avoid!  Damned if I do, damned if I don't is how I see it.

Moving forward, these photos I share this week are from the not too distant past:

  2. You talk about lethal with a hammer...you don't want to hear my tale. You would wonder about me...if you did. You would certainly question my intelligence.

I LOVE all your bird photos...I hate that it is going to be so hard for you to get to your birding paradise. That is what it sounds like to me...

  4. Dear Anni,
oh yes, that sounds like a very busy time (and a dangerous time when I think of the lethal hammer ;-)) I have to admit, I don't do that much work around Christmas. Just decorate a little, completely stress-free ...
Your bird photos are definitely great again - I just wonder why the teal is called "GREEN WINGED TEAL"; -DDDD (Really gorgeous and very eye-catching, those green wings!)
You will get two posts from me today (including the one from the previous week) - but there are no very spectacular bird photos - a few ducks and gulls and crows in the first post and bathing pigeons in the second ... But better than nothing, isn't it?
All the best and happy December-Days,
    Traude

  9. You sound so organized Anni. You even have many archive photos to fall back on. I was so interested in the Green winged Teal because one was seen with a gang of Common Teal just last week. Needless to say when I visited the same place the greeny wasn't there. Enjoy your DIY week but stay out of hammer range.

  11. All great selections, but the teal photos are so colorful, enhanced by the reflections. Your header bird is really cute and a new one for my life list. A Kringle-finch?

  13. Looks like you have a great plan preparing for the festivities Anni. I can’t wait to hear all about you and your sister baking the Gingerbread House, and the photos :) Bud’s a clever guy to be able to repair and replace the wood around your garage. Oh wow, great bird photos. I especially loved the green tail feathers on the Green-winged teal. Hope it won’t be long before you can get back to your birding places but that seems like a long, long time for the road works. We have a lot of that in our area that’s been going on for a couple of years, and expecting it to go on for another couple of years.

  14. Sounds like you'll be very busy. I've always wanted to make a gingerbread house and never have. Please show pictures of it as you go. Your bird photos are beautiful. Do you have a pelican. It's one of my favorite birds.
