About 40 minutes' drive from home is a small little sea village of Rockport, Texas. For several days a sooty tern was reported being spotted by several people in the area of the town's bayside park. Of course we never timed it right to find the rare bird....the sooty tern is most always considered a pelagic [open sea] species, only making use of landfall [usually the quiet, deserted islands found far from human inhabited lands]. But while there, trying to find it and walking the much in use 'nursery' of gulls and egrets, royal terns, and herons, the noise coming from the laughing gulls, nesting, was deafening!! Farther away in the distance another roped off area is protecting the nesting black skimmers and across "Little Bay" is another rookery for herons, egrets, and spoonbill nestors. For this post tho, I'll share the triplets and their mother...the tri-colored herons nearby where you can walk to view from the roped off area for the birds' protection....

"Calgon....take me away!!"

Several days later, I returned to the nesting grounds and photographed some updates on the other areas. Will post about that return trip another time.
